Back in 2007, Yahoo! jumped on the carbon offset bandwagon by announcing that it would invest in carbon offset projects as a means of reaching carbon neutrality.  Now, according to a June 30 report in GreenBiz, the company has abandoned the offsets and is focusing instead on increasing the overall energy efficiency at its power-intensive data centers.

To achieve better power and carbon savings, Yahoo is building a new data center near Buffalo, New York that will use hydropower and a natural cooling system supplied by cool air coming off Lake Erie.
