Cape Wind adversary in financial difficulty

The Boston Globe reports that the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, the formidable nonprofit that led the crusade against Cape Wind, the first offshore wind farm, is in financial difficulty.
According to the Globe:
Raising an average of $3.6 million a year in 2003, 2004, and 2005, the organization aired television ads, paid a public relations firm, and staged a $1.5 million lobbying drive to try to persuade Congress to kill the controversial plan, which has become central to a national debate over the future of clean energy.

Al Gore admitted earlier this month that the tax credit for ethanol was mistake. Everyone on the right jumped on his statement as further evidence of Mr. Gore’s hypocrisy.
Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle in an article at Real Clear Politics at Real Clear Politics reminds us that it was Mr. Gore who as Vice President in 1994 broke a 50-50 tie in the Senate by voting in favor of the ethanol tax credit. This credit according to Saunders added $5 billion to the deficit last year.

Mercedes Benz is adding a small luxury diesel to its S-Class car line according to a report in Bloomberg. Mercedes has announced that this luxury diesel will get 41 mpg — that’s better mileage than the S-Class hybrid which is listed as getting 19 city and 25 highway .

In Mr. Obama’s weekly radio address at the beginning of July (that was Day 75 of the BP oil well disaster), he touted the country’s transition to a “clean energy economy” and announced the Department of Energy’s “award of nearly $2 billion in conditional commitments to two solar companies.”

Byron York at the Washington Examiner reports that a staffer working for Sen. Chuck Grassley (R. Iowa) found this little tidbit in a Bureau of Labor Statistics notice dated March 16 - there is “no widely accepted standard definition of ‘green jobs.’” The staffer then looked back at some of the Labor Dept. announcements:
