Van Jones, the special adviser to President Obama for green jobs, resigned over the weekend after it was revealed that he signed a petition stating that President Bush may have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen as a pretext for war in the Middle East. Additional ammunition used against Jones were his past statements about Republicans.

The list of those opposed to the Longleaf Coal Plant continues to grow. Six new amicus briefs were filed recently seeking to derail the project. Despite the possible generation of millions in tax revenues and an estimated 100 full-time jobs in a poverty-stricken rural county, there is a downside — carbon dioxide emissions. This has been an issue that environmentalists have rallied against since 2007.

British Revenue & Customs officials arrested seven people last week on suspicion of tax fraud arising from the sale of carbon dioxide permits - the European version of cap and trade program that passed the U.S. House in June. New York Times
Those arrested are believed to be part of an organized group operating a network of companies trading large volumes of high-value carbon credit., according to the release from the HR Revenue & Customs

Four Democratic senators want to put off the proposed cap & trade legislation. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad, both of North Dakota are urging the Senate to delay legislation that puts caps on greenhouse gas emissions and instead, pass a narrow bill that sets requirements on the use of renewable energy.
Senators Lincoln and Dorgan are up for re-election in 2010 and are from states that would be hurt economically from the cap and trade bill similar to the one passed by …

In an expected move, the Australian Senate, which is more conservative than the center-left Labor government, rejected a cap & trade bill yesterday by a vote of 42 to 30.
